Abstract

This article emerges from the research called Evolution and Development of Religious Architecture in the Province of Veraguas, offering a theoretical and graphic work, which integrates the methodology of architectural research and the existing historiographic information on religious buildings. Aspects are touched upon, such as the creation and constructive evolution of religious structures, materials used and their possible origin, chronological location of each intervention, construction of buildings, architectural styles, and infrastructure since their creation. At the same time, a categorization of the buildings was carried out by chronology and established stages related to special characteristics in each period, remaining in 5 groups: The first, called (1). Colonial Religious Architecture in Veraguas (16th century to 18th century), subdivided into two groups: (1.1.) Religious Architecture of primitive Temples in Veraguas, ranging from 1,535 to 1,720 and (1.2.) Colonial Religious Architecture, constructive innovation in Veraguas. Period ranging from 1,720 (18th century) to 1,799 (19th century), the second, called (2.) Reconstruction of Religious Architecture in Veraguas, from 1,800 to 1,900 end of the Colonial Era and Union to Colombia (19th century), The third, we call (3) Communal Religious Architecture in Veraguas, stage covers the beginning of the 20th century (from 1900 to 1935), The fourth stage we call (4). Heritage Rescue of Religious Architecture in Veraguas, from 1935 to 1950, the fifth stage we call Modernization of Religious Architecture in Veraguas, from 1950 to 2021, which is subdivided into the following periods: (5.1) Modern Remodeling Period from 1950 to 1966. (5.2) Period of Expansion of Modern Religious Architecture in Veraguas from 1966 to 1996. (5.3) Period of Conditioning and Restorations of Religious Architecture in Veraguas from 1996 to 2021. In this way it is intended to further clarify the panorama for your study.
